Welcome to Axis Chiropractic, P.A. - your path to wellness

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose Axis Chiropractic?

Axis Chiropractic has been serving New Ulm and surrounding Southern Minnesota communities for more than 42 years. Our clinic combines decades of community trust with modern, patient focused chiropractic care. Patients are treated by an experienced chiropractor who takes the time to understand their condition, goals, and individual needs.

We offer same day or next day availability for many new patients, making it easier to get care when pain or injuries occur. Walk in patients are always welcome during business hours, although scheduled appointments are preferred whenever possible to help minimize wait times.

Our focus is simple. Provide high quality chiropractic care, honest recommendations, convenient access to treatment, and a positive patient experience. Whether you are dealing with back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, work injuries, or sports injuries, our goal is to help you get back to doing the things you enjoy as quickly and safely as possible.

What Makes Axis Chiropractic Different?

Many chiropractic offices focus primarily on scheduled appointments. At Axis Chiropractic, we understand that pain does not always happen on a schedule. Our walk in model allows patients to receive care when they need it. We also emphasize patient education, individualized treatment plans, workplace ergonomics, injury prevention, and conservative treatment options that fit each patient's lifestyle and goals.

Do You Accept Walk In Patients?

Yes. We are the only chiropractic clinic locally that offers true walk in appointments during normal business hours. Whether you wake up with back pain, suffer a work injury, aggravate an old condition, or simply cannot wait several days for an appointment, walk in care allows you to receive treatment when you need it most.

Do You Offer Same Day Appointments?

Yes. Many patients are able to be seen the same day they contact our office. In addition to scheduled appointments, walk in availability allows patients to receive prompt care when pain, injuries, or mobility problems arise unexpectedly.

Are You Accepting New Patients?

Yes. We welcome new patients of all ages from New Ulm and surrounding Southern Minnesota communities. Whether you are experiencing a recent injury, chronic pain, headaches, sciatica, sports injuries, or work related conditions, we are happy to help.

Do I Need A Referral To See A Chiropractor?

No. Chiropractors are considered direct access providers, meaning patients can schedule an appointment without first obtaining a referral from another healthcare provider. This often allows patients to receive evaluation and treatment sooner.

What Happens During My First Visit?

Your first visit typically includes a health history review, discussion of your symptoms, orthopedic and neurological testing when appropriate, and a physical examination. This information helps identify possible causes of your condition and determine the most appropriate treatment recommendations. Many patients are able to begin treatment during their first visit.

How Long Does A Chiropractic Appointment Take?

Appointment length varies depending on the complexity of the condition and services provided. New patient visits generally take longer because they include a detailed examination and history. Follow up visits are typically shorter and focused on your ongoing treatment plan.

Insurance & Payment

Do You Accept Insurance?

Yes. Axis Chiropractic accepts most major insurance plans and is an in network provider with many commonly used insurance companies. Coverage varies depending on your individual policy, deductible, and copay requirements.

Do You Accept Medical Assistance (MA)?

As of January 1, 2026, Minnesota Medical Assistance coverage for chiropractic services is limited. Axis Chiropractic accepts Medical Assistance for eligible patients under the age of 21. Adults age 21 and older are generally not covered for chiropractic services under current Minnesota Medical Assistance guidelines. Coverage rules can change over time, so patients are encouraged to contact our office with questions regarding eligibility and benefits.

What If I Don't Want To Use Insurance?

Many patients choose to pay directly for care instead of using insurance. We offer affordable cash payment options that are often comparable to, or less than, the out of pocket costs associated with some insurance plans, particularly for patients with high deductibles.

What If My Insurance Doesn't Cover Chiropractic Care?

If chiropractic care is not covered under your plan, affordable cash payment options are available. Our office can discuss costs and available options before treatment begins so there are no surprises.

What Forms Of Payment Do You Accept?

We accept cash, checks, major credit cards, debit cards, and Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) payments when applicable.

Chiropractic Care & Treatment

What Chiropractic Techniques Do You Use?

While we implement several techniques, we primarily utilize Diversified Technique, one of the most commonly used chiropractic adjustment methods. Most adjustments are performed by hand, although treatment methods may vary depending on the patient's condition, comfort level, age, and health history.

Do Chiropractors Only Adjust The Spine?

No. Chiropractors are trained to evaluate and treat many joints throughout the body. Depending on the condition being treated, care may involve the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, or other joints. Many patients are surprised to learn that chiropractors commonly treat extremity injuries in addition to spinal conditions.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe?

Chiropractic care is widely used for musculoskeletal conditions and has an excellent safety record when performed appropriately. Of all health care fields, chiropractic repeatedly ranks amongst the safest. Treatment recommendations are based on the patient's health history, symptoms, examination findings, and overall presentation.

How Many Chiropractic Visits Will I Need?

The number of visits varies depending on the severity of the condition, how long symptoms have been present, lifestyle factors, and how well the body responds to treatment. Some patients improve within a few visits, while others with chronic or more complex conditions may require a longer treatment plan.

Will I Need Chiropractic Care Forever?

No. The goal of treatment is to improve your condition and restore function. Once treatment goals are achieved, patients may discontinue care or choose occasional visits based on their personal preferences and health goals.

Do You Recommend Maintenance Chiropractic Care?

Many patients choose maintenance chiropractic care after their initial condition has improved. Similar to routine exercise, stretching, or dental cleanings, maintenance care may help support mobility, flexibility, joint function, and overall musculoskeletal health. Participation is always voluntary and based on individual goals.

Conditions We Commonly Treat

Can A Chiropractor Help With Back Pain?

Back pain is one of the most common reasons patients seek chiropractic care. Causes of back pain may include muscle strains, joint dysfunction, repetitive stress, workplace injuries, sports injuries, disc problems, poor posture, and everyday wear and tear. Chiropractic care is frequently utilized as a conservative treatment option for both acute and chronic back pain.

Can A Chiropractor Help With Neck Pain?

Yes. Neck pain is another common reason patients seek chiropractic care. Poor posture, prolonged computer use, repetitive work activities, automobile accidents, and sports injuries are common contributors to neck discomfort. Many patients also experience headaches, muscle tension, and reduced mobility along with neck pain.

Can A Chiropractor Help With Headaches?

Many headaches originate from structures in the neck, upper back, and surrounding muscles. Tension headaches and cervicogenic headaches are commonly associated with posture, muscle tightness, and restricted movement. Many patients seek chiropractic care when headaches become frequent or begin interfering with work and daily activities.

Can A Chiropractor Help With Sciatica?

Sciatica refers to pain, numbness, tingling, or discomfort that travels from the lower back into the hip, buttock, or leg. Symptoms often occur when the sciatic nerve becomes irritated or compressed. Many patients seek chiropractic care as a conservative option for managing sciatica related symptoms and improving mobility.

Can A Chiropractor Help With Work Injuries?

Yes. Workplace injuries are among the most common conditions seen in chiropractic offices. Repetitive lifting, prolonged sitting, repetitive movements, awkward positions, and physically demanding jobs can all contribute to musculoskeletal pain and injury. Chiropractic care is commonly utilized to help workers return to normal activities as quickly and safely as possible.

Can A Chiropractor Help With Sports Injuries?

Many athletes and active individuals seek chiropractic care for sports related injuries, mobility limitations, and recovery support. Common conditions include muscle strains, joint injuries, overuse injuries, shoulder pain, knee pain, and movement restrictions that affect athletic performance.

Can A Chiropractor Help With A Herniated Disc?

Yes. Herniated discs and disc bulges are among the most common conditions seen in chiropractic offices. Symptoms may include back pain, neck pain, sciatica, numbness, tingling, weakness, or pain that travels into the arms or legs.

Many disc injuries improve with conservative treatment and time. In many cases, the body is capable of gradually reabsorbing portions of a herniated disc during the healing process. Recovery timelines vary depending on the size and severity of the injury, but improvement often occurs over several weeks to months.

At Axis Chiropractic, we commonly treat patients with disc related conditions and modify treatment approaches based on the patient's symptoms, comfort level, and diagnosis. Severe cases may require additional imaging, medication management, or surgical consultation when appropriate.

Corporate Chiropractic & Workplace Health

Do You Offer Corporate Chiropractic Services?

Yes. Axis Chiropractic offers corporate chiropractic services designed to support employee wellness, workplace safety, injury prevention, ergonomics, and productivity. Programs can be customized for businesses of all sizes and industries.

Do You Provide Workplace Ergonomic Assessments?

Yes. Ergonomic assessments help identify workplace factors that may contribute to discomfort, repetitive stress, reduced productivity, and injury risk. Recommendations may include workstation modifications, lifting strategies, posture improvements, and movement education.

Do You Treat Patients From Outside New Ulm?

Absolutely. Many patients travel from surrounding communities throughout Southern Minnesota to receive care at Axis Chiropractic due to our walk in availability, same day appointments, and individualized treatment approach.
